Wet N’ Wild Photofocus Foundation: Worth the Hype?

Hello beauties! I’m sure you’re aware of all the hype around the new Wet N’ Wild Photofocus Foundation. I’m normally not one to buy into that, but for $5, I felt I could indulge and not be annoyed if it completely bombed. There’s nothing worse than makeup heartbreak, friends. So let’s get down to business!

I’m pretty impressed with a 20 shade range from a drugstore brand- especially one that’s so incredibly affordable. I also love the spatula applicator! I’ve heard quite a few gripes about how it seems unsanitary- yet we use doe foot applicators allll the time lol. Anyway- I swipe it on the back of my clean hand and apply it with a beauty blender.

I guess matched myself with Shade ‘363C Nude Ivory’ and I purchased mine at my local Walmart. I did a pretty good job as the foundation doesn’t oxidize a whole lot and they lean toward the lighter side. Here are swatches:

And here, on my face:

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I have combination skin and I absolutely love this foundation. It had a medium coverage that was buildable and made my skin look smooth. I also had no oil buildup after 6 hours of wear- which is insane for my T Zone. I loved the way it applied with a beauty blender and would recommend that method of application. The finish is Demi matte to matte in my opinion. I don’t think it’s 100% flashback proof- but that can be varied depending on the powders you’re using too. I’m not a flash photo kind of gal, so that’s not a deal breaker for me. One con- it literally smells like house paint. I don’t notice the smell after it’s applied- but if you are sensitive to smells, I would pass on this.

I’m definitely a fan of this!!

Have you tried this foundation yet? What’s your drugstore holy grail foundation? Let me know in the comments!

New Wet n’ Wild Mini Haul: Swatches & Reviews.

Hey lovelies! I stopped by Giant Eagle the other day and had a chance to check out their WnW section. Much to my happiness, they had a bunch of the new products and I was able to grab a little haul for just $11! I also wanted to share the amazing deal I found in my new foundation brush. Let’s get started.

I had seen the color correcting palette on another blog and was happy to grab my own.

Processed with Rookie

The coverage this palette provides is great and although the highlight is a little too white for my cheeks, it will look lovely on the brow bone for an eye look. I’m also contemplating how to wear the purple as lipstick! Haha, multipurpose that ish.

Next we have the glitter single:

This particular shade wears so much better than the other two I have. I’m not sure if they changed the formula and added more glitter, but I had no problem getting it to adhere with some Urban Decay Bondage.

Next the liquid lip color:

After reading about this product so many times, I finally picked up the shade ‘Cherry on Top’ and fell in love. Thus I needed a nude too. These are only $3 and are so hard to remove! In a good way! The color without a doubt will last the day and since they dry matte, you can use clear lip balm over top. These lippies will make your lips feel dry after awhile, but for the price and the lasting ability- yes, please.

Lastly from WnW, the lippies:

I seriously want to rave all over town over these one dolla hollas. The formula is creamy, comfortable, and very pigmented. ‘Dark Pink Frost’ is really a gorgeous rose gold and I am completely obsessed. ‘Blind Date’ is a magical berry stain and ‘Dark Orchid’ a lovely burgundy. These lippies will transfer a bit and will need reapplication through the day. Worth it.

Now let’s talk about my foundation brush. I have been using a flat foundation brush and just finding myself unhappy with its performance. I know through playing with brushes at work that I wanted a tapered fluff foundation brush to apply my liquid foundation, but just can’t justify the Bare Minerals price tag right now. Then while putting truck out at work, I stumbled upon this little gem:

I’ve never purchased a brush from Studio Basics as the packaging looks heinously cheap, but I sure am glad I gave this one a try. It’s definitely as soft and full as my beautiful UD brushes and is the perfect size for me. The handle is sturdy and I don’t notice any shedding. I also like that it can be used for both liquid and powder foundations.

Hands down the best discount haul I’ve had in awhile. I like them all! Have you picked up any of these items?

My Valentine’s Day Eye Looks.

Happy Valentine’s Day lovelies! Today I wanted to share with you the makeup looks I created for my Valentine’s Day dinner with my hub and going to see ’50 Shades of Grey’ with my mom. These eye looks are pretty product heavy and I apologize, but I wanted a lot of elements to make them special.

Eye Look No.1: Dinner at the Cheesecake Factory with Nate:

We had the perfect dinner (and probably the most expensive one to date- $112.00 with the tip, but totally worth it) and I cooked up this little pretty little eye look to wear out. I really just wanted to use my Urban Decay Moondust Shadow and my new Milani Baked shadows… haha. Anywho, let’s get to details. I primed my lids using Too Faced Original Shadow Insurance. Next, I applied Milani Baked Eyeshadow in ‘I Heart You’ all over my eyelid. I then wet my brush to intensify the color and applied that only to the center of my lid as a highlight. Next, I applied Motives eyeshadow in ‘Native’ in the crease and blended that upward. I then added Urban Decay’s ‘Stark’ to that edge to further blend and Motive’s ‘Shell’ heavily blended under my brow. I lined my waterline using Urban Decay’s 24/7 Liner in ‘Smoke’ and brushed wet Milani Baked Eyeshadow in ‘Green Fortune’ under the lash line. Then I applied Urban Decay Moondust eyeshadow in ‘Solstice’ over the highlight area on the lid and sealed in the glitter using the Urban Decay Bondage adhesive. Then I lined my wings using the Urban Decay Perversion Cream Liner, applied Benefit’s Roller Lash Mascara and NYX Wicked Lashes.

Eye Look No.2: Movies with my Mom:

Do you think that’s too gaudy for a headpiece? Let me know what you think. I wanted to combine orange and purple for this one! I really ended up liking it. For this look, I applied the purple shadow from the Wet n’ Wild Fergie ‘Duchess Lounge’ Photo Focus Eyeshadow palette all over my lid and up into the crease. I applied wet, the purple shade from the Milani Runway Eyes Baked eyeshadows in ‘Primary’ to the center of my lid to intensify the purple. I blended out the crease using the matte purple shade in the Hard Candy Top Ten Trendsetters Eyeshadow Collection in ‘Aphrodisiac’ and Motives eyeshadow in ‘Native’. I made sure the ‘Native’ is more concentrated under my inner brow. Next, I lined my waterline with Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in ‘Perversion’ and brushed a little wet Milani Baked Shadow in the orange shade (Runway Eyes) and ‘Drenched in Gold’ under the lash line. I lined my wings using the Urban Decay Perversion Cream Liner making sure to leave the little window to apply glitter. I used Urban Decay’s Bondage adhesive to apply Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter in ‘ACDC’ in the window. I used Benefit’s Roller Lash mascara and applied NYX Wicked Lashes.

**on the side reviews:

The Urban Decay Perversion Cream Liner– it’s just ok. If it gets in your inner corner, it’s gonna run and look nasty and it claims to be waterproof. My Lorac pen doesn’t do that. Boo. The black is really rich and it does stay put pretty well, so if you avoid that area, you should be good.

Benefit’s Roller Lash Mascara– Omg, seriously go buy it now. I’ll do a review with pictures on this one, but the beautiful curl just kills me with joy.

Milani Baked Eyeshadows– They are so beautiful and richly pigmented. I’ve seen mixed reviews and I’m thinking they got bad batches because mine happen to be exquisite. Consider me hooked. If you’d like picture swatches, let me know- you won’t be disappointed.

Eyelure LashFix in ‘Black’: My favorite eyelash glue to date. The black is awesome and the packaging is gorgeous- I’m a sucker for a glass bottle.

Have a great day lovelies!

Easy Studded Mani.

Here’s a quick, low cost, and unique mani just about anyone can do!

For this look, I used LA Colors Color Craze Nail Polish in ‘Cactus’ ($1 at Dollar General) and Wet n’ Wild Fast Dry Nail Polish in ‘The Gold & the Beautiful’ ($1.99 at Dollar General or the like). I also used nail studs which were on clearance for $1.49 at my ULTA. Yours may have some too and if not, these are easy to find and this look works just as well with nail or small craft rhinestones.

I applied ULTA Professional base coat and two coats of ‘Cactus’. I added a little ‘The Gold & the Beautiful’ at the tips of the nails. Next, while my nails were still tacky, I placed my studs in a simple design that I liked. I painted a little ‘The Gold & the Beautiful’ on top of the studs. I finished the look with Nicole by OPI High Shine Top Coat and Burt’s Bee’s Cuticle Cream (which I love!).

I highly recommend the color ‘Cactus’. Not only is the price amazing, but the green gold color really brings in the compliments. It’s just a unique shade! Don’t worry though, cheap polishes work great with a good base coat and top coat to seal it in.

Hope you liked the look!

Discount Haul First Impressions & My Current No- Makeup Look.

I picked up a couple of things recently- most were really cheap but were also pretty, so I thought I’d give them a go.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Here we have: Keranique Amplifying Lift Spray, Pravana Nevo Intense Therapy Leave In Treatment, ULTA Minerals Nourishing Lip Color in ‘Pink Topaz’, Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner in ‘Intense Black’, Wet n’ Wild Glitter Single in ‘Bleached’, Essence Crystal Liners in ‘Sparkling Purple’ and ‘Gold Rush’, Essence 3D Eyeshadow in ‘Irresistible Purr-ple’ and Wet n’ Wild Silk Finish Lipstick in ‘Will You Be With Me?’.

Here’s a swatch with the ULTA gloss on the left and the Wet n’ Wild lipstick on the right.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This lipgloss is awesome- and I don’t like lipgloss because it always feels so sticky to me. No stickiness here- and the color is very pretty. The lipstick is pretty too- super baby lavender pink, without being too loud.

Here’s the liners. Essence glitter liners, Maybelline Gel Liner, and the Wn’W glitter.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The brushes on these Essence liners are TERRIBLE. I also felt the purple was a letdown, but the gold is gorgeous. I just use a different liner brush. The Maybelline is just fine and the Wet n’ Wild glitter is a pretty orange and green glitter depending on the light.

Here’s the Essence shadows. The purple is so pretty- it could be Urban Decay. Such a lovely iridescent purple-y blue. I had to get it! This swatch is with primer.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I haven’t gotten to the hair products yet, but I’ll be sure to let you know how those work for me in a later post. Especially the Keranique, which is a fairly new line of products. Also, my loving hub bought me the ‘Give Me More Lip’ set from Sephora for Christmas and I got the freebie Cyber Monday mystery bag. As soon as it arrives, I’ll be sure to cook a up a review for you all. I’m very anxious 🙂

And finally, I want to show you all how lazy I’ve been since Black Friday…literally since the day.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

No liner. Nude lip. Subtle Blush. Brows. Mascara. Foundation. Concealer. I’m just so beat lately that I can’t make myself do shadow, lashes, and wings! haha. Hopefully, I’ll be back to normal soon. But, on the bright side I think the Algenist Eye Cream I’ve been using is making my eyes look great despite no sleep:

(No filter). Algae: 1, Tired Eyes: 0.

So far, I’m convinced.

That’s all for now, see you soon lovelies.

Halloween Mani & A Mini Lip Haul.

Part un: Le Halloween Manicure.

Halloween is my favorite time of year- especially the fun nails and makeup! It’s pretty much the only time you can get away with anything remotely crazy on a normal day. This year, I wanted to something fun and different for my mani, and feeling inspired by a few other beauty bloggers I adore, I decided to go the decal route. My favorite thing about decals? They’re quick and cute. Lately, I’ve been been short on time and working a lot more- because I got promoted to management at ULTA! (victory dance)

Anyway, here’s my manicure:

And details:

Funky skulls and bats and stars, oh my! I found these decals (100 for $1!) at my local Dollar General. The glitter is from the Wet n’ Wild Halloween Polishes and is holographic multi-color. I apply my decals using tweezers, that way it doesn’t mess up my nailpolish. Here’s the hand-painted manicure on my natural nails that I had last year:

Part Deux: Le mini Lippy Haul.

I recently grabbed Too Faced Melted Berry Liquid Lipstick, Lorac Pro Matte Lipstick in Mauve, and Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Va Va Violet. Here I swatched them for you:

Processed with Rookie

I absolutely love the high pigmentation and ease of use of the Too Faced ‘Melted Berry’, however, it definitely will transfer. If your hair blows across your face, the hair will stick and smear color all over the place. It just needs to be monitored while being worn. As it wears off, it leaves a lovely pink stain that will last until the next day. I like this as it looks like your wearing lip color even if it’s not really full power color.

The Lorac Pro Matte Lipstick however, is a 10/10. This color is absolutely stunning and universally flattering (and there’s plenty more shades to choose from- next I will get ‘Violet’). It has the perfect matte finish and doesn’t make my lips feel dry. The tip is chiseled so you can apply it with the accuracy of a lip liner and it’s a twist up, so no sharpening or any of that. At $16 a pop, this is a worthy splurge.

And finally, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in ‘Va Va Violet’. Everyone’s swatches of this color are different, but it appears nearly black in the tube. It wears a really deep red toned purple- realllly similar to the NYX Vamp ‘Temptress’. This of course was a disappointment to me, as I already own that color. This lipstick applies in the same way too- it hangs on certain areas and doesn’t coat the lips evenly. This line of lipstick is great- creamy application with a lot of pigment. I just think it’s this specific color that applies poorly. Meh.

Look of the Day.

Just wanted to show off my makeup today. It’s purely because I am in LOVE with these Ardell Fright Night Lashes in ‘Mesmerizing’- they’re big. Real big. And I want more!  I’m thinking about doing an IG challenge in order to get myself to wear (aka practice) full makeup daily. If you read my blog and use IG, please leave your name in the comments so we can be friends!  Haha, I love makeup, it’s just doing it every day that gets me. And then, there’s the hair… don’t even get me started on the hair.

photo

Shadows are LA Colors ‘Precious’ mini palette (The red and copper shades), Urban Decay ‘Slowburn’ shadow and Wet n’ Wild glitter single in ‘Brass’. Liners are ELF Liquid Liner in ‘black’ and Too Faced Bulletproof Shadow Liner in ‘Black Out’. Mascara is Tarte ‘Lights, Camera, Lashes’. Brows are NYX Brow Gel in ‘Black’.

Here’s a bigger one of the full version. The shadows are a little more red than they appear. I had light that wouldn’t quit today:
