The Ultimate Guide to Summer Body Care- Everything from your tips to your toes!

Summer is such a great time of year for fun under the sun- but what about the dandruff, sunburn, bug bites, and dry flaky skin? Fear not- I’ve compiled a list to get you through the heat, feeling foxy all the way through!

You knew I was gonna cover this right? Right. The best way to care for your body is to prevent the sun’s harmful rays from zapping your skin. You can still get color while wearing an SPF, so you needn’t worry about staying pale for the next few months. There are so many different types of sunscreen- find the right one for your situation and ALWAYS protect that beautiful face. Don’t depend on the SPF claims in foundations either- they aren’t enough to do anything real; You’d literally have to wear the whole bottle and even then, it’s not enough. Get a moisturizer with SPF (like Clinique’s Even Better) or a stand alone facial sunscreen (like Boots No.7). And don’t forget the part in your hair, your ears, or your hands. Hands are the first thing to show your age! Protect them!

Eyes are generally neglected and the heat of summer can make it even worse! Get yourself an eye cream (like Algenist Eye Balm) and use it! Warm it up between your fingers, then gently dab it all over the eye area using your ring finger. I also highly recommend a cooling eye mask for hydration, de-puffing, and general cooling.

Sun can cause really dry skin- or really oily skin that breaks out. For dry skin- be sure to gently exfoliate a couple times a week and apply a good hydrating moisturizer. I like gel consistency moisturizers for summer- they apply so nicely and melt right into the skin. Plus, you can pop it in the fridge for a refreshing cool burst! For oily skin- be sure to cleanse, tone, and exfoliate. Exfoliation is key- dirt, oil, and dead skin is the perfect formula for pimples. Gel moisturizers will work wonderfully for you as well, so get your cool on πŸ™‚

The sun is great at making hair oily, giving the scalp dandruff, and sucking the color out of your strands. But you can fight back!! If your ends are dry- try a hair oil treatment and use a split end protector before using heat. Greasy hair? Try using a clarifying shampoo once a week, less product overall, and spritz of dry shampoo when you need a touch up (this one by Macadamia is my favorite because I notice that it’s less drying). Curly girl? Embrace those curls with a curl cream. They have moisture and hold to keep curls looking great. And don’t forget- conditioner is your best friend- you could even try a conditioning hair mask. Generally dry hair? Get a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. The conditioner should be thick like lotion! I like Joico KPak and for a bargain- I’ve been LOVING the Garnier Whole Blends Coconut Milk duo. So cheap- so shockingly good! And if you have color- go hat shopping, invest in a cute headscarf, and wash your hair with sulfate free shampoo in cold water. The best way to protect it- is to cover it and keep it out of the pool! Lol

To keep your hands and feet in top shape- use a moisturizing scrub. OPI makes incredible options that smell good enough to eat! Don’t forget cuticle cream and moisturizer! In the summer, I really love the way a bright nail polish pops! Don’t be afraid to have fun with your color choices, but don’t skip a base coat. This is especially important for toes because they are particularly suceptible to staining.

I really love a good body sugar scrub in the summer. The oil in it helps lock in moisture and makes the skin so glowy, plus it destroys any gross dead skin cells. Don’t forget to moisturize- find what works for you consistency wise.

Bikini Line- Exfoliate first. Be sure to use a razor with four or more blades. I really recommend men’s razors because that are made to cut coarser hair and are cheaper in the first place. Use coconut oil to shave with (legs too! I just keep the jar in the shower. It has an insanely low melting point so don’t worry about it clogging the drain). Finish up by gently patting the area dry and applying a men’s shave balm. It’s incredible stuff and can stop ingrowns and bumps before they happen.

β€’β€’β€’ TEA TREE OIL- *the summer miracle* β€’β€’β€’

β€’ Face: add a few drops to some witch hazel and apply 1-2x per day for an antibacterial, acne fighting toner!

β€’ Hair: add a few drops to your shampoo to help with annoying summer dandruff and oil.

β€’ Feet: Sweaty, smelly feet? Fear not! Add a few drops to an epsom salt soak and kiss that smell goodbye. Nail fungus? Apply a drop directly to the affected nails. Repeat until it’s gone.

β€’ Body: Sunburned? Add some tea tree to jojoba oil and you have the perfect combo to banish the redness. Bug bite? Apply some tea tree oil to the bite to stop the itch. It can even be used to repel the mosquitos!

If you’re a mask person- you may enjoy some body mud! It’s wonderful in the summer for pulling out impuritiesand refreshing the skin. If you like shimmer- add some liquid highlighter to your moisturizer! It has a blurring effect to minimize imperfections and makes tan skin glow like a goddess. Looking to get bronze quickly? Pick up a tan accelerator. They seriously work, but be careful and don’t over do it at first.

And lastly- deodorant. Nobody wants to smell and nobody wants to deal with white marks and balled up bits of deodorant in their armpits. Pick up a dry spray! You get the same protection as a stick, but it dries completely and leaves NOTHING behind. If you have darkening in your armpits- mix a paste using turmeric, water and a splash of lemon juice. Let it sit 20-30 minutes and wipe away. Turmeric also helps keep unwanted hair at bay, so it’s a double win!

Now you’re all set to have the beautiful summer of your dreams! Any fun plans? Anything you wanna add to the list? Let me know!

Until next time,

Xx&o,

NYX Pro Foundation Mixers: Review & Swatches.

Hey beauties!

I know I’ve been gone awhile- and quite a bit has happened since we’ve spoken last. But that’s a whole different post, haha. Today I want to tell you about the NYX Pro Foundation Mixers. What is a foundation mixer you ask? Keep reading!

Building a kit for a makeup artistry career is not a cheap thing to do- especially when you want the best for your clients. I had been struggling with how to handle purchasing enough foundations to span the skin tones, without breaking the bank. I have eight shades of UD Naked Skin (my preferred foundation) and clearly that’s not enough to do the job. I had heard about foundation mixers, but had never really needed them until this point in my career. Enter the NYX Pro Foundation Mixers!

DSC01324

I purchased five of the six available shades- Luminous, Warmth, Olive, Deep, and White. The other shade is a white based luminizer, and I felt that the ‘Luminous’ one I purchased would do the trick for any skin tone. They retail for $10 each (1.01 fl.oz.) on the NYX website and in Ulta Beauty stores.

Here is what the tip looks like:

DSC01330

I love that it’s very precise- it makes for less waste, as with these, a little goes a long way! Think of it like paint- you can completely customize your foundation by darkening, lightening, or adjusting the undertones! I took the liberty or doing some sample mixes for you to see the mixers in action.

And now:

IMG_3872

IMG_3870

The mixers do not change the consistency of the original foundation! I recently used them for a wedding and they went off without a hitch! They even photographed well! I am beyond happy with these- not only for the price, but how well they get the job done. I highly recommend them! They have also been saving me on getting a new foundation because I’m no longer paper white, yay summer! Β I just mix my too-light Born This Way with a little ‘Deep’ and ‘Warmth’, to make a custom shade that matches perfectly all summer long!

Makeup Revolution: Mermaids Forever Palette.

Hello lovelies! Recently I ordered the Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever eyeshadow palette to use up my $10 off birthday coupon from Ulta. I had never tried the brand and although they are low end (I could’ve used the coupon on ANY item unlike most coupons they provide) I thought it’d be fun to try something new and affordable for you. This palette was $15, so I got it for only $5 and also picked up a $3 lipstick too, but that’s another post. But speaking of lipstick, I have to divert to tell you a very sad, tragic story.

With all the chaos and added stress from moving, my fiance and I went to watch the Browns game live to check out the new stadium and do something fun. When we came home, I discovered that my dog had gone into my lipstick drawer and eaten SEVEN of my precious Wet n’ Wild Satin finish lipsticks. He smudged them all into our rug in the living room-Β a location TWO rooms over from the original crime scene. That means he walked into my beauty room seven separate times to grab a tube and carry it into the living room where he could devour it maniacally. After nearly crying and chanting ‘You love your dog’ over and over, I forgave him. But UGH, talk about heartbreak. Here is a photo of my fur-child, Yogi, for reference of his cuteness:

He’s too cute to hate. Little bastard, lol. Anywho, let’s get the palette now that I’m done wallowing.

IMG_1602

The box is a shiny sea blue green, but it’s just their regular old black, sleek packaging inside. Mine was slightly scuffed right at opening, which slightly annoys me. When you order NYX a lot of the time it’s scuffed up too. I guess that’s the price you pay to save a dime! There are 32 shades in this palette which happen to have adorable sea themed names- which brings me to complaint number two.. I had researched quite a bit before actually ordering this which is pretty typical behavior when it comes to me and online ordering, but everyone who I had seen with this palette it had come with an insert with all the shadow names on it. My sheet was plain clear plastic, so I had to write them in with a sharpie:

image

My inner OCD hates this… Buttt, we’ll let it slide-this time. Let’s review some swatches and then we can talk about what I thought after using.

image (1)

The pigmentation is just kind of okay. These swatches are over UD original primer potion! I just wasn’t all that impressed considering my 120 Color eyeshadow palette by BH Cosmetics was only $15 and was way more pigmented with bazillions more shades to choose from. I like it when I paid $5 for it which would make it a steal, but at full retail for $15, not all that. The shades are also ALL shimmer, which I knew when ordering, but I could never just take this palette for travel because I like mattes in the crease and for blending. I would be willing to try a different palette from this company, but this one is definitely not my favorite.

Would I repurchase: Meh. Not any time soon.

Have you tried this palette before? How about any others from this brand? Please share your experience! I don’t want to give up on them just yet! lol.

Makeup Monsters Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick- Review & Swatches.

Hello lovelies!! I’m super excited to talk to you about an awesome indie brand called Makeup Monsters Cosmetics. I discovered them on Instagram and fell in love with everything about the brand. They offer so many beautiful and unique liquid lipstick shades that are not only vegan, but clearly made with love. The creator recently had a little one and she totally kicked ass at maintaining the business- which is booming by the way. This brand used to be an Etsy shop and now has graduated to a much bigger brand with a beautiful website and adorable packaging. But packaging doesn’t make a product. After stalking many reviews and following the brand for awhile – I decided to pick up two shades I’d been lusting after forever. I grabbed ‘Wipe Out’ ( a gorgeous deep, matte true blue) and ‘Darkness Prevails (a super rich, matte black).

The lipsticks retail for $13.95 each and come in 6 gram tubes with doe foot applicators. There are 32 different shades (from nude and peach to mint green and beyond) Β to choose from! You can get them slash check it out here. My package took about 7 days to arrive from ordering and came neatly in a bubble mailer (all of the product was wrapped in silver tissue paper).

IMG_1260

IMG_1266

How cute is this?!

Here’s the back of the card:

DSC04074

And here are the swatches of the lippies:

IMG_1267

The lipstick formula is light as air and dries down fairly quickly. The colors are SO rich and pigmented, I immediately fell in love. I want the whole collection (no, seriously). The color you see in the tube is the color you get and it doesn’t disappoint! They wear great, but this doesn’t mean to leave the tube at home. You’ll need to touch up here and there, but it’s totally worth it for how fabulous they feel while you wear them. A lot of liquid lipsticks are so ‘long wear’ they shrivel your lips into raisins and feel like cement by the end of the day- not these babes.

Rating Overall: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Long Wear: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Color Selection/True to Color: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Overall Experience: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Would I recommend?: Absolutely.

I’m all about supporting brands like these and highly recommend you try them. The price is right and with all the liquid lipstick love going on, I had to give these guys a shout.

Talk to you soon loves.

Summer Eye Look- Cerulean and Rose Gold.

Hi lovelies! Today I wanted to show you an easy (no liquid liner, yay!), colorful, and universally flattering eye look.

IMG_1218

Want to learn how to do this look? Keep reading!

IMG_1219

Here are the products I used. You clearly don’t have to use these exact products, so I took photos so you can see if you have dupes for these colors:

IMG_1238

1. Apply eyeshadow primer all over the eye, including the lower lash line.

2. Apply the NYX shade (it’s just slightly darker than the BH Cosmetics mint color) all over the lid.

3. Apply the cerulean blue shade to the outer lid and blend that over into the crease to create depth.

4. Use the warm coral to blend out the crease. I blended mine under the inner brow as well, but you can do what you feel comfortable with.

5. Apply the NYX shade under the lower lash line avoiding the inner corner.

6. Blend some of the cerulean near the outer corner on the lower lash line. I used a small detail brush for this step. This shade will end up making a little sideways ‘V’ at the outer edge of the eye.

7. Apply the Rimmel cream shade to the inner corner and use the BH mint to blend it up onto the lid and into the lower lash line. This will complete the ‘ombrΓ©’ look of the eye.

8. Apply the Milani shade under the brow bone.

9. Line the waterline with the blue liner and apply lashes!

10. Conceal and go!

IMG_1220

IMG_1217

I can’t wait to be finished with all of this house buying business, so I can do YouTube tutorials! I think videos are so much easier to follow! Do you like this look? Any other looks you’d like to see? Let me know in the comments!

Let’s Play a Game.

Hello lovelies!! Today I thought it would be fun to do a new type of post where I compare two similar products side by side and see if you can tell the difference between the two. Is it worth it to splurge? Which one looks better? Let’s see if you can guess the products correctly!

IMG_1197

Today we will be comparing Anastasia Beverly Hills and NYX Cosmetics. Here is a shot of my bare brows for comparison.
